Designer of Matter. Maker of Spaces.

Matter Makers is a San Francisco - Amsterdam based architecture and design studio founded by Dutch architect Antoine van Erp on 01/01/2020. The studio collaborates closely with clients to turn their dreams and visions into reality, crafting unique spaces and objects in the process.

We prioritize sustainability in our approach, ensuring that our designs are not only distinctive but also environmentally mindful. Our goal is to make a positive impact on both the environment and the communities we serve. We thrive in diverse, collaborative environments, engaging with private clients, developers, architects, artists, entrepreneurs, fabricators, builders and craftsman.

Each project is client and site specific and starts with carefully looking at the existing qualities of the location, how it relates to its surrounding and in what way we can use these qualities to inform the design process.
We are experts in concept development and the initial stages of projects, with a keen awareness of their financial aspects. We bring a broad range of services, including architectural and interior design, massing and light studies and rigorous research in the shape and size of things. We produce immersive virtual reality environments, make models, images, drawings and use 3D printing and model making to communicate ideas in all stages of the design.

Our approach is deeply rooted in understanding the relationship between inside and outside spaces, as well as the connection to the surrounding place and culture. We embrace the use of bio-based materials, re-use of spaces and buildings, and see value in the character of used spaces. We believe that the future of our planet depends on our mindful relationship with materials and how they are produced. By thoughtfully integrating these principles into our work, we aim to create a positive impact for future generations.
