Matter Makers is an architecture and design studio based in San Francisco and Amsterdam, dedicated to creating purposeful spaces that honor the environment and the communities they serve. Our goal is to design spaces that feel authentic, evoke emotion, and reflect the spirit of their context.
Through a research-driven design approach, we blend creativity with sustainability to deliver innovative and impactful solutions. From adaptive reuse to responsible material sourcing, we focus on thoughtful practices that create lasting and meaningful change.

A bit about the founder
Matter Makers is founded by Antoine van Erp. As an architect, designer and maker Antoine has over 15 years experience in designing and managing complex, innovative and international architecture projects. Before founding Matter Makers, he worked on price winning projects worldwide for Heatherwick Studio (London), UNStudio (Amsterdam) and Powerhouse Company (Rotterdam) among others.
Antoine holds a Bachelor and Master degree in Architecture and Urban cultures from the Technical University in Eindhoven and is a licensed architect in the Netherlands under the number 1.210913.003.
Antoine has taught master’s studios in architecture in both Europe and the U.S. He is currently a professor at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, where he teaches advanced architectural design to master’s students.
